Bulls Hold Hoyas To A Pair
October 23, 2007 | Women's Soccer
TAMPA, Fla. ? The University of South Florida women's soccer team held the high-scoring Georgetown Hoyas to just two goals in the Bulls' fifth conference loss of the season, a 2-0 defeat Tuesday night at the USF Soccer Stadium.
Georgetown has now scored 34 goals in 17 games, opposed to USF's nine goals in 14 events.
In Tuesday's BIG EAST matchup, three Bulls took shots on goal, all in the second period, as USF tallied seven total shots. Senior Autumn Browning had two attempts, one on frame, added to two shots from freshman Lisa Bjorkvik. Sophomore goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi made one save, but allowed two goals in 90 minutes in net.
In the first half, Georgetown took early control of the game, making numerous offensive attacks and pressuring the Bulls in their own defensive third. With 10 minutes remaining, substitute sophomore Kaneile Thomas added a spark to USF's step, allowing the Bulls to gain possession of the ball.
Browning gave USF their closest look in the first stanza, taking a shot with eight minutes left in the period, but sent the ball over the top of the net, keeping the game scoreless at the half.
The second half began where it left off, with USF continuing to control the pace of play, but Georgetown quickly changed that, scoring two goals in three minutes. USF battled back, attempting four shots, three on goal, in the second frame, but couldn't get a shot past the GU goalkeeper, losing the game 2-0.
USF concludes the 2007 season the same way it began ? on the road - ending the regular season this weekend with trips to West Virginia (Oct. 26) and Pittsburgh (Oct. 28).
