Home Scoreless Streak Continues For Women's Tennis

TAMPA, Fla. (March 11, 2007) - The University of South Florida women's tennis team captured its fourth-straight win Sunday afternoon, 7-0 over the University of Wyoming. With the victory, the Bulls stretched their home shutout streak to six matches.
USF (7-2), opened play by sweeping the doubles point with convincing victories of 8-0, 8-2 and 8-3.
The No. 26 pair of Shadisha Robinson and Gabriela Duch blanked UW's Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski, 8-0 for their eighth win of the year.
Jessica Sweeting and Courtney Vernon bounced back after a defeat to St. John's on Sat., and set down Corina Lazar and Sarah Summerfield, 8-2.
Liz Cruz teamed with Ann-Marie Modric for the first time all year, as the pair outlasted Michelle Brown and Amy Senko, 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles play, Cruz needed little more than half an hour to close out Senko on court four, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 71 Courtney Vernon and No. 18 Shadisha Robinson both remained perfect in the first and second spots, with straight-set victories.
Sophomore Iciri Rai earned her sixth win of the year with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Brown on court six.
The scoreless streak appeared to be in jeopardy as Corina Lazar took the first set from Sweeting, 6-2 at the third spot. The freshman battled back however, to earn tie-break victories of 7-6(4) and 1-0(6) in the remaining frames of the marathon match.
Duch also needed three sets to evade The Cowgirls' Andrea House, but was able to preserve the USF shutout.
The Bulls will head to California for their second road trip of the year, to battle with nationally ranked teams Pepperdine, TCU and Fresno St. The match against No. 24 Pepperdine will take place Tues., Mar, 13 in Malibu. USF will face ranked opponents in each of its next five court appearances.
