Bulls Barely Edged In Final BIG EAST Match Of The Year

Louisville, Ky. (April 7, 2007) - The University of South Florida men's tennis team fell to No. 54 Louisville 4-3 in its final BIG EAST match-up of the regular season.
The Bulls (7-12) fell behind early when they failed to capture the doubles point against the Cardinals (8-12). UofL's No. 9 pair of Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson defeated Mahmoud Hamed and Thomas Estrada on court one and Henning Hipp and Daniel Daudt fell to David Simon and James McArthur at No. 2. Marc Jaeger and Ales Svigelj were able to outdo Chris Herrlinger and Morton Sivertson 8-4 in the third position.
Singles play did not go USF's way either. Johnson scored the second overall point for Louisville with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Jaeger at No. 2. Estrada suffered a rare defeat on court five, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 to Simon and No. 60 Radman set down Svigelj in three sets on court one to seal the match.
The Bulls gained points at No. 3, where Hamed overpowered Rober Rotaru 7-6, 6-1, No. 4 which saw Diego Toledo continue an outstanding freshman season, 6-3, 6-4 over Kenneth Nordheim, and at No. 6 where Hipp put together his thrid straight victory, 6-3, 6-3 over McArthur.
The men's tennis team will remain in Louisville and conclude its regular season against No. 31 VCU Saturday in a neutral-site match. The Rams are 13-7 on the year and are lead by No. 79 Petr Olsak.
