TAMPA-The University of South Florida women's soccer team's bid for their second consecutive appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament took a major hit Friday night at USF Soccer Stadium as the Bulls dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the University of Pittsburgh.
The Bulls were close to tying the game on a number of occasions but the Panther defense squandered any attempt .
Valorie O'Brien's attempt from the 18' grazed off the crossbar and fell harmlessly out of bounds instead of giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead heading into the half.
For the game, shots would be even at nine a piece but USF would only put two shots on goal.
The Panthers would push across the match's lone goal in the 47th minute when Ashley Habbel would beat Bulls junior goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi as the ball took an awkward bounce and which left Habbel alone with an empty net.
Lofton-Malachi kept the game close making multiple acrobatic saves to keep the Bulls within striking distance. The Philadelphia native made five saves on the night.
With the loss, the Bulls fall to 7-7-3 overall and 3-6-1 in conference play and will need help to gain a berth into the BIG EAST Tournament.
USF will be back in action Sunday for Senior Day as the Bulls will honor its four seniors before they host West Virginia in the regular season finale with Kickoff at 1 p.m. The game will be aired live on the Bright House Sports Network.
