TAMPA -- Lieutenant General Martin E. Dempsey, the acting commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), spoke to the University of South Florida football team after their practice Tuesday morning.
Dempsey's message to the team was about being a good teammate and working as a unit.
"When this season is over, what you will remember most are the things you did for your teammates and what you did to make this entire team better," said Dempsey.
Offensive coordinator Greg Gregory, who coached at Army from 1982-97, arranged for the General's visit.
His visit coincided with the multimedia staff from USF Health shooting behind the scenes footage with Dr. Eric Coris. Corris has worked with the USF football team for several years and he has coordinated the heat pill studies with the team. Players ingest a heat pill and during practice, USF Health staff is able to monitor their core temperature and prevent dehydration, overheating and a number of other ailments.
The heat pill caught the eye of General Dempsey, who thought it was something the military could possibly implement.
One thing that is already implemented at MacDill Air Force Base is a loyaltly to the Bulls.
"You guys are our hometown team, it's an honor to be here with you today and I want you to know that you have an entire base behind you this season," said Dempsey.
? The multimedia team at USF Health will have a podcast and video feature on Dr. Corris and his work with the football program in the near future. When it is ready, you will be able to find it here at GoUSFBulls.com.
