Bulls Blank Bowling Green 3-0 in Season Opener

 BOX SCORE

TAMPA - The No. 18 University of South Florida men's soccer team won their first regular season game against Bowling Green. With the final score of 3-0, the Bulls managed to show their talent and depth.

“It thought the guys did a good job tonight,” said USF head coach, George Kiefer. “I'm really happy who came off the bench and it shows that we have a lot of depth. We look at Fernando Gonzalez and Jorge Mora who didn't miss a beat. A lot of guys contributed to our win.”

The last meeting between these two teams was in 1988, where the Bulls came out victorious 4-0.

Junior, Zak Boggs scored the first goal of the season and the first as a USF Bull. He received a cross from senior, Jordan Seabrook, where Boggs fired it into the left side of the goal from 18 feet out.

The Bulls took control of the first half by taking six shots to the Falcons zero. Both teams remained physical fighting for each possession. Bowling Green received two yellows cards in the first half.

The Bulls fired in two more goals in the second half. Sophomore, Bernardo Anor and senior Jordan Seabrook recorded their first goals of the season. Jorge Mora and Boggs received the assists on the goal from Seabrook.

In the second half, the Falcons best opportunity to score came from a cross that was misplayed by another Bowling Green player. The Bulls defense allowed only one shot of goal for Bowling Green.

Senior Yohance Marshall anchored the defense for the Bulls against the Falcons.  Marshall has been selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team, the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and an All-American Candidate. Assisting Marshall was freshman Aubrey Perry from Ocoee Fla. who made his debut in the Bulls uniform.

“We always knew Aubrey was a talent,” Kiefer stated. “He's worked very hard in preseason and I think he could be a very good attacking right back in the future if he keeps working at it.”

The men's soccer team will head up to the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in Notre Dame, Ind. where they will face No. 7 Indiana and No. 3 Notre Dame. The Bulls will return to the USF Soccer Stadium on Saturday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. where USF will face the Panthers of Florida International.
