TAMPA -The awards are rolling in for University of South Florida women's soccer goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi. The Junior was named to this week's SoccerBuzz.com's Elite Team of the Week,a day after Lofton-Malachi was named the BIG EAST Conferences Goalkeeper of the Week.
SoccerBuzz.com is one of the nation's leading soccer magazines giving in-depth coverage of men's and women's collegiate soccer. With over 5,000 players in Division I women's soccer playing each week, Lofton-Malachi was one of 15 players selected for this week's Elite team of the week.
The awards are merited after Lofton-Malachi's dominating performances over the weekend. Lofton-Malachi recorded a pair of shutouts in which she totaled 17 saves and helped the Bulls to a 1-0-1 record. The Philadelphia, Pa. native, recorded 200 scoreless minutes last week, including a career-high 11 saves in a 0-0 tie at Connecticut on Sept. 25.
She also had six saves in a 2-0 shutout against Providence on Sept. 28. Lofton-Malachi is in the midst of a scoreless streak spanning 308:02.
Lofton-Malachi has recorded three consecutive shutouts and has five through the first 10 games. On the season, she leads the BIG EAST in saves with 62 and she is a huge part of the Bulls 5-2-3 start. Lofton-Malachi has played every second of every game this season. Lofton-Malachi, who ranks among the top of the BIG EAST in each statistical category, checks in with an impressive .53 goals per game average.
Lofton-Malachi and the Bulls will be making their first ever trip to Notre Dame's Alumni Field for a matchup with the Irish on Friday Oct. 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET, then the Bulls will travel to Chicago for a game against the DePaul Blue Demons for a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. ET.
