BOX SCORE

SOUTH BEND, IND. ?
After 110 minutes, the No. 14 University of South Florida men's soccer team tied No. 6 Indiana 0-0 in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

“I thought the guys worked really hard and we got stronger as the game went on,” said USF head coach, George Kiefer. “Our guys coming off the bench did a really good job. Armante Marshall, Jorge Mora and Fernando Gonzalez are three guys that are really making changes when they come in. They provide depth.”

In the first half, the Bulls pretty much matched evenly with Indiana. The Bulls had five shots to Hoosiers six and sophomore, Diego Restrepo acquired two saves in the first half and recording three for the game.

Senior Jordan Seabrook, junior Zak Boggs and sophomore Bernardo Anor each recorded a shot on goal in the game for the Bulls but still being outshot 15-8.

In the 8th minute of the game, Boggs shot, but just missed wide of the goal. Zak then fired another shot on goal, which Indiana's goalkeeper, Chay Cain, saved. In the 23rd minute Anor fired off two shots but was unable to capitalize with a goal.

In the second half, the Hoosiers fired off six consecutive shots before Seabrook fired a shot that just went high. Within two minutes of his first shot, Seabrook let loose on another ball but was saved by Cain.

Indiana earned four corner kicks within the first five minutes of the second half but came up short on each attempt. On the fourth attempt the ball was cleared out to Hoosiers, Ofori Sarkodie who sent in a good hard shot that curled just wide.

In both overtimes, the USF defense held down the Hoosiers only allowing three shots, but neither team could record a goal to seal the victory.

“I think we had a few chances were we could have put the game away,” stated Kiefer. “We left here having exciting things to work on, but I think it was a good result for us.”

On Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. the Bulls will face host Notre Dame since their last meeting in 2006. USF is 2-0-0 all time versus the Fighting Irish with their last victory of 2-0, in South Bend.

“Notre Dame is going to be a fun game for us,” stated Kiefer. “Hopefully there will be a good crowd a good environment for us to get better in.”

The Bulls will return to the USF Soccer Stadium on Saturday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. where USF will face the Panthers of Florida International.
