TAMPA - After a few days of uncertainty, the University of South Florida women's soccer team came out relaxed and ready to give Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown her 100th career win and the Bulls did just that as they came out and blanked Kent State 1-0 at the University of Tampa's Pepin Stadium.
“Hope fully we get 100 more. I really feel this program has the tools necessary for us to keep getting better and better,” Schilte-Brown. “The team was pumped but they kept their focus. I think we were prepared and I feel they played well. We made the adjustments we needed to be successful.”
As both teams felt each other out in the opening minutes of the game, the Bulls would slowly begin to assert themselves on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game.
The Bulls and Golden Flashes would play to a 0-0 tie in the first half but the Bulls gave Kent St. net minder Kris Nelson a work out as they put five shots on goal while attempting eight shots.
The Bulls opened the second half very aggressive, as they continued to pressure the Golden Flashes' goal.
The Bulls' attack mentality would pay off in the 54th minute when junior forward, Amanda McCormick headed a precise cross from freshman Rehana Murani to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
With the lead in hand, the Bulls would turn up the defensive pressure, while maintaining an offensive mentality. Coach Schilte-Brown used strategic substitution to keep fresh legs out on the field to keep the energy level up.
The Bulls would fend off any type of offensive rush by the Golden Flashes in waning minutes to preserve the victory and the shutout.

On the night, the Bulls out shot the Golden Flashes by a 14-8 margin, six of which were on goal.
The Bulls get back in the win column and improve their record to 2-1-1 while the Golden Flashes they drop to 2-2-0 on the season.
USF will be in action next when they welcome the Hatters of Stetson as the Bulls open the newly renovated USF Soccer Stadium on Sept. 11 at 7:30
