
Jones Named BIG EAST and NBE Player of the Week

TAMPA - University of South Florida junior guard Dominique Jones averaged 22.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in the Bulls' last three wins to earn his first-career BIG EAST Player of the Week award.
He was also listed as the NBE Basketball Report BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Jones was on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll earlier this season (11/23) and was named the league's Rookie of the Week four times in the 2007-08 season.
Against UCF, USF and USD, Jones shot 52.6 percent (20-38) from the field and 50 percent (9-18) from long range while hitting 79.2 percent (19-24) of his free throws.
In 35.7 minutes per game, Jones also averaged 4.0 assists, 3.7 steals and .7 blocks per game while posting a 1.3 assist to turnover ratio.
He started the week with a 27-point outing against UCF, hitting eight field goals, three from long range, and 8-of-9 from the line. Jones also grabbed six rebounds, swiped five steals and blocked a pair of shots.
In the first night of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, the Lake Wales, Fla., native hit San Francisco for 23 points, hitting 5-of-10 from long range, added to his four assists, three steals and three rebounds.
Jones wrapped up the Classic with a 18-point, five-rebound night against San Diego. Along with six assists, he had three steals and was 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
With 68 points this week Jones moved into seventh on USF's all-time scoring list, totaling 1,315 career points. He now trails No. 6 Tony Grier, who scored 1,475 points from 1980-82.
