Bulls Extend Streak to Five with 6-1 Victory Over FAU

TAMPA - Riding a combination of strong doubles play and dominating singles play, the University of South Florida men's tennis team extended their winning streak to five matches with a dominant 6-1 victory over Florida Atlantic University at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.

Starting off with doubles play, the Bulls took two of three doubles contest to take an early 1-0 lead.

USF's No. 1 position of Thomas Estrada and Lucas Jovita picked apart the Owls No. 1 of Eddie Majchar and Marc Abdelnour to win 8-6. Then the newly formed duo of Wael Kilani and Yannick Yoshizawa registered a point-clinching win with an 8-6 win over Lawernce Harradine and Santiago Nieto

Heading to singles competition, the Bulls kept momentum rolling. Freshman Wael Kilani picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dan Vardag to push the lead to 2-0. Kilani is now 10-3 in dual matches and an impressive 21-5 overall.  He is in the middle of a five-match winning streak.

The Bulls would then get victories from the No. 3 and 5 positions to put the match away. Hamed, playing in the No. 3 spot, defeated Scholl 6-3, 7-5, for his sixth straight win.  Then Romain Deridder tallied a 6-3, 6-2 win over Eddie Melchar to clinch the victory.

With the match in hand, freshman Bull Mark Oljaca picked up a three set win over Santiago Nieto, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3, and was followed by Jovita picking up a 7-5, 2-6, 10-2 win over the 77th ranked Marc Abdelnour to push the Bulls point total to six.

The Bulls, 9-4 on the season, will head to Baton Rouge, La., for a dual match with the Tiger's of LSU Wednesday afternoon at  1 p.m.
