March 28, 2009 | Men's Tennis
TAMPA- After their thrilling 4-3 win over Central Florida, the No. 40 University of South Florida men's tennis team took their show on the road to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Bulls failed to gain any momentum going as USF suffered a 6-1 fate to the Irish to fall to 10-6 on the season.
Looking to take the early lead, the Bulls were not able to as USF dropped its No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to give the Irish the early advantage.
The Irish continued their strong play by taking five of the six singles matches to take control of the match. Freshman Wael Kilani, who is ranked No. 95 in the country, continued his strong play by taking a straight sets win over Stephen Havens, 7-5, 6-0. The Bulls lone victory of the match pushed Kilani's dual record to 13-3 and 24-5.
Kilani has now won eight consecutive singles matches with victories over three ranked opponents.
Following today's match, the Bulls will now travel to Richmond, Va., to take on Louisville at 10 a.m. on April 4.
