TAMPA, Fla. - Redshirt-freshmen quarterbacks Evan Landi and B.J. Daniels battled until there was literally no time left on the clock.
Landi connected with Colby Erskin on a four-yard touchdown as time expired in the fourth quarter. With the score at 21-20 and no time left, Landi and the White team went for two points and the win.
They were just inches away as Landi barely overthrew an outstretched Theo Wilson in the corner of the end zone on the conversion attempt.
Daniels was spectacular for most of the evening. He passed for two touchdowns, ran for another TD and accumulated 181 passing yards to guide the Green team to the victory.
Daniels connected with Dontavia Bogan for a 56-yard gain on the Green team's second offensive play. That set up a one-yard bootleg TD run for Daniels and an early 7-0 advantage.
The combo of Daniels to Bogan would put the game-winner on the board with a 46-yard pass and catch in the third quarter. The play came on the heels of a scramble, sling and TD to Bogan that was called back on a penalty.
This one would not be called back but was nearly intercepted by Chris Lane, who tipped it into the air where Bogan retrieved it and did the rest of the work.
Landi led the White team on one first-half scoring drive in relief duty for Matt Grothe, who only played two series.
Landi lofted a deep pass into the hands of redshirt-freshman Daniel Bryant for a 55-yard score in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7.
He then led his team on an 88-yard scoring drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter by connecting with multiple receivers.
Landi finished with 189 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
The White team's second score came on a 95-yard interception returned for a touchdown by sophomore Quenton Washington. Washington stepped in front of a Daniels' pass and later eluded him in route to the end zone.
Daniels also had a 20-yard touchdown pass to walk-on receiver Jeffrey “Pookie” Wilson.
Bogan finished the game with three catches for 105 yards to lead the green team. Ed Alcin led all receivers with eight receptions and 74 yards.
The Green team combo of Mo Plancher (40 yards) and Joel Miller (43 yards) combined for 83 yards on the ground.
Defensively, veteran Aaron Harris had four tackles for loss and three sacks. Nate Allen led all players with eight tackles and was followed closely by Mike Lanaris and David Bedford, who each had seven.
