TAMPA- Through the first 20 rounds of the 2009 MLB First Year Players Draft, it is apparent that the USF baseball team plays some of the toughest competition in the country.
41 players from BIG EAST teams and other 2009 USF opponents have been drafted in the first 20 rounds of the draft including one current Bull, and three USF signees.
Pitcher
Shawn Sanford was drafted in the 13th round by the San Francisco Giants. Three high school players that have signed on to play at USF next year have also been drafted and will have to decide whether or not to skip college and go directly to the pros.
Nick Lockwood, younger brother of USF outfielder
Ryan Lockwood, was drafted in the ninth round by the Minnesota Twins, Chad Taylor was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 13th round and Chase Greene was drafted by the New York Mets in the 16th round.
USF opponents had a total of eight players drafted in the first round of this year's draft including the fourth overall pick of the draft in Boston College's catcher, Jorge Sanchez.
Oklahoma led the way for the Bulls' 2009 opponents having seven total players drafted in the first 20 rounds of this year's draft, while Indiana and Florida each had five apiece.
