TAMPA, June 6, 2025—The University of South Florida baseball team has four players who represented the Bulls on the 2025 College Sport Communicators Academic All-District Team in
Ryan Pruitt,
Carlos Jacome,
Rafael Betancourt, and
Matt Rose.
The 2025 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
In his first season with the Bulls, Pruitt batted a .281 average on 61 hits, 11 doubles, and five home runs. He batted in 41 runs and scored 31 himself. On the bags, Pruitt stole 24 bases on 28 attempts. In the season opener, his seventh-inning grand slam pushed the Bulls to a 5-4 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes. Pruitt is currently working towards a degree in Finance.
In 47 starts, Jacome posted a .309 average at the plate. In 162 plate appearances, he had 50 hits, nine doubles, two triples, and four home runs. Jacome scored 24 runs while batting in 34. In the field, he turned 14 double plays. In the Bulls' 10-3 win over Tulane, he went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, one double, one home run, and four RBI. Jacome is currently working towards his degree in Communications.
Betancourt started in 45 games, mainly as the Bulls' designated hitter. He had 47 hits, seven doubles, and two home runs for a .263 batting average. Betancourt recorded 14 multi-hit performances. At Memphis, he matched a program record of five hits in a game, going 5-for-5 at the plate. Betancourt is currently working towards his degree in Finance.
Rose finished the season with a .322 batting average, the second-best on the team. In his 46 appearances, he had 48 hits, seven doubles, and two home runs. Rose batted in 19 runs and scored 34 himself. On the bases, he was perfect in stolen base attempts. In the American Athletic Conference Tournament, Rose kept the Bulls' season alive with the game-winning home run in the eighth inning against Wichita State. Rose is currently working towards his degree in Marketing.
Hannahs at the Helm:
Mitch Hannahs was named South Florida's eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024, after compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six conference titles and five NCAA Regionals, guiding ISU to a spot in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional. He takes over a USF team that went 26-29 last year and features 24 new players.
60th Year of USF Baseball:
The South Florida Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and will enter its 60th campaign in 2025. The Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and earned their first-ever Super Regional berth in 2021. USF has won 11 conference titles - five tournament titles (3 Sun Belt, 1 Metro, and 1 American) and six regular season championships (3 Sun Belt, 2 Metro, and 1 C-USA). Bulls baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors 12 times, and 19 Bulls have earned Freshman All-America accolades.
