TAMPA - In a back and forth battle, the University of South Florida women's soccer team fell to in-state foe Central Florida, 1-0, courtesy of a late goal by UCF forward Nicolette Radovcic Sunday afternoon at the UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando.
USF, looking to keep its offensive momentum rolling from Friday's 6-0 victory over Austin Peay, would be limited to just one shot on goal; however the Bulls defense would prove to be solid as it held the high-octane Knights to three shots on goal.
Sophomore Noelle Piniero would provide the Bulls' shot on net and would attempt two total shots.
Neither team was able to create a lot of offensive opportunties as the two teams combined for just three shots on goal leading up to Radovcic's game winner in the 88th minute of play.
Making her 42nd-straight start, senior
Mallori Lofton-Malachi played the entire 90 minutes, making two saves on the afternoon.
Three other Bulls went the distance as defenders
Bahar Sansar,
Valorie O'Brien and
Angelique Waller played the entire 90 minutes for USF. Waller has now started 32 straight matches.
With the loss, the Bulls fall to 2-3-1 on the season and are now 1-4-1 against UCF in the "Battle of I-4." USF is 1-2-1 on the season against in-state opponenets.
USF will open up BIG EAST play as the Bulls will travel to Marquette to take on the Golden Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. Eastern. Following their BIG EAST lid lifter, USF will come back to the Sunshine State to close out their non-conference slate and travel to Deland, Fla., to take on Stetson on Sunday, Sept. 20.
