TAMPA - Two members of the University of South Florida baseball team have been placed on Baseball America's top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Rising sophomore
Todd Brazeal, junior
Eric Sim and newcomer
Jimmy Moran were listed as three of the top 220 prospects from Collegiate summer leagues.
Baseball America ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.
Brazeal was named sixth best prospect in the Valley after picking up freshman All-America honors during the 2009 season. Playing for the Staunton Braves, Brazeal hit .308 and led the team with eight homers and 38 RBI while starting 42 of the 44 games he played in. He was also impressive on the base paths swiping 14 bases in just 15 attempts.
Sim was rated the eighth prospect in the Jayhawk league while playing for the Derby Twins this past summer. The 6'2 catcher hit a respectable .247 with wood over the summer, adding six extra-base hits in 81 at-bats. His throwing arm earned him a spot on the top 10, and jumped out to league managers as the best tool in the Jayhawk League.
Moran is rated the 10th best prospect out of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate League. The 6'1 righthander was 0-0 in 17 relief appearances for the O's with an ERA of 1.93 with opponents hitting .235 off of him. Moran comes to USF after spending 2009 at Community College Baltimore Colleg - Catonsville where he was a Maryland JUCO Conference Freshman All-Star. In 13 games, he had 54 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched. Perfect game ranked, Moran the 11
th best prospect in the league. Moran comes to USF with sophomore eligibility.
