Jones Earns Third BIG EAST Weekly Honor of the Season

TAMPA - University of South Florida junior guard Dominique Jones averaged 28.0 points and 6.5 rebounds against Notre Dame and No.7 Syracuse this week to earn a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Jones was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 23 and was the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Dec. 21. As a sophomore, he earned one Weekly Honor Roll (Jan. 19) award and as a freshman, he was the Rookie of the Week four times.
Jones shot 48.5 percent (16-33) from the field this week, including 6-13 (46.2 percent) from long range and 18-23 (78.3 percent) at the line. In two games, he handed out eight assists, swiped two steals and blocked a shot.
In USF's one-point loss to Notre Dame on Jan. 5, Jones scored 26 points, dished five assists and grabbed four rebounds in 40 minutes. Against the Irish, he hit a trio of threes and shot 83.3 percent from the stripe.
After scoring just six points in the first half against Syracuse, Jones tallied 14 straight to start the second period. He ended the day with 30 points, the eighth time Jones has scored at least 30 points in a game. The 30 points also set his season high.
In that game, the native of Lake Wales, Fla., again hit a trio of threes, and added 13 points from the free throw line. In 38 minutes, he had nine rebounds, three assists, a pair of steals and a blocked shot.
In four career games against Syracuse, Jones has gone for 17, 23, 29 and now 30 points.
Including his stats against Syracuse, Jones is now currently listed on eight career records lists at USF and looking in on one other. He is fifth in free throws made (311), seventh in scoring (1,376 points) and field goals attempted (1,041), eighth in three point field goals made (137), three pointers attempted (401) and attempted free throws (428), ninth in field goals made (464) and 10th in steals (120). He is just 39 handouts away from 10th in career assists.
