Postgame Quotes
Stan Heath, USF Head Coach
"It was good to go in the locker room and see those guys smile at the end. We certainly played a better brand of basketball; sharing it, utilizing our big guys in and out, passing it. And I thought our defense was really good tonight. We got a lot of steals; we got a lot of turnovers and we capitalized on those opportunities with scoring from our defense. It's good to see five guys in double figures. It's good to see us rebound, with everybody; the guards getting in there, the big guys rebounding. It was a good team effort, and something that we really needed. I thought our backs were against the wall and we needed this win."
On Jones' comments from the West Virginia game...
"From time to time that happens because he desperately wants to win. He knows that a winning formula is not going to be him doing it by himself. And I thought with the words he said, he didn't personally attack anyone. It was just a team reference and I thought that was healthy. But we had a team meeting; players met and they talked about things. Sometimes I have to slap myself a little bit, too, and say you know what, right now, I'm only playing really with two guys that have Big East experience. It's just two guys, Chris and Dominique. The rest of those guys, they have no inkling of what it's like to be out there in Big East play. We're growing, we're maturing, we're figuring things out."
Fred Hill, Rutgers University Head Coach
On tonight's game...
“I don't think any game is a must win game. You always want to win the next game you go out and play and that's what we talked about. Every game on the road is very difficult. People are going to look at South Florida's record and say 'wow you have to win the next one', looking at our record you have to win this one or that one. We approach every game as the next game, we have to go out and play to get better. Early on, we weren't turning the ball over, the last three or four games we have been struggling turning over the ball. You can't turn over the ball 19 times and expect to win a game, especially on the road. Mike [Rosario]'s been really struggling right now. He's been our go to guy. He's got to be consistent and efficient, as we talked about I'm very impressed with Dominique Jones. I think we did a heck of a job on him and he didn't force things. He let the game come to him and he winds up having 20 points but very efficiently. There's other things to help this team win. Crater really stepped up and did a pretty good job for them.”
USF Guard Anthony Crater
On making his first shot of the season...
"It was a good feeling, through the last couple games I haven't been able to make a shot so it was a pretty good feeling seeing the first one go down."
On this week after a loss...
It's tough losing, but we just have to keep ourselves focused and that game is behind us, so we just came into night ready for this game, and we have to do the same for the next one.
On the locker room talk after the first BIG EAST win...
"We can't get too hyped over one win. We just have to come back tomorrow and get ready and get prepared for Cincinnati."
On being a young team in the BIG EAST...
"We are a pretty young team for the most part, so we just have to do what we do best. We play defense, we play together and that's what we did tonight and we came home with a win."
