| Quotes |
"This guy right here just made play after play after play. What an incredible performance." -- USF Coach Stan Heath after the Providence game |
"It's great to have Dominique break my record, especially since it helped to win the game in the BIG EAST. That adds a little extra to it. He definitely had a great game; he nearly had a triple double on top of it. He's very deserving of the record." -- Charlie Bradley, former USF record holder for most points in a game (42) Click here for the complete Charlie Bradley interview |

Notes on Dominique Jones:
|
• Dominique Jones set the USF single game scoring record in a game, passing Charlie Bradley's 42 against Florida State on Dec. 10, 1982. It was also only the second time ever a player for USF has scored 40 or more points. • With 46 points against Providence, junior guard Dominique Jones set his season and career high for points. His previous season high was 30 at Syracuse on Jan. 10, while his previous career high was 36 against Iona on Dec. 27, 2008. • Jones also ended his night two points short of tying the BIG EAST single-game record. The BIG EAST record is held by Eric Murdock of Providence, who scored 48 points against Pitt exactly 19 year ago on Jan. 23, 1991. Murdock also owns the third-highest game by a BIG EAST player when he hit for 45 against Arizona. • He also scored the third-most in a game this season in Division I behind Arkansas' Rotnei Clarke, who had 51 in a game against Alcorn State, and BYU's Jimmer Fredette, who had 49 against Arizona. • Jones has scored 30 points or more in nine games with the Bulls, three times as a rookie, four games his sophomore season and now twice as a junior. • Jones is averaging 28.5 points per game over his last six contests. • Jones also scored 29 in his last meeting with Providence on Feb. 10, 2009. • Jones scored 24 points in the second half for the second time this season after also knocking down 24 in the second half against Syracuse on Jan. 10. • Jones was two assists shy of a triple double, as he also posted 10 rebounds along with his 46 points. The last player to hit for a triple double was McHugh Mattis, who had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks on Dec. 7, 2006 at Winston Salem State. • With 6:07 left in the game, Jones hit USF's first three pointer, drawing the score to 78-69. • With 46 points, Jones moved into sixth on the all-time scoring list with 1,491 points, surpassing Tony Grier's 1,475. He now trails Chucky Atkins, who scored 1,619 from 1993-96. • Jones knocked down 14-of-18 free throws, moving into second all-time in free throws made with 343. Only Bradley with 459 has made more than Jones. • His 14 free throws made ranks as the third-best single-game mark and is his career high. John Kiser owns the all-time record with 17 made free throws. His 18 free throw attempts stands him in a tie for fourth all time. • Jones also hit 15-of-23 from the floor, as he now sits at 503 career field goals, which moved him into eighth all time. Gary Alexander is up next with 507. • His 15 field goals made put him in a tie for fourth for the most made in a game. Doug Aplin and B.B. Waldon share the record with 17. He also set a career high with his 15 field goals. • Jones also played all 45 minutes in the game, the most he has played in a game after playing 44 against Notre Dame on March 8, 2008. • With his third three-point attempt of the game, junior Dominique Jones moved into seventh on USF's all-time list in the category. Jones, who entered the game with 416 attempted threes, passed Melvin Buckley's 418 attempts, and now trails Derrick Sharp, who ended his career with 430. |
