Klotz Nabs All-BIG EAST First Team Honors
November 05, 2010 | Women's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, NJ - Junior Chelsea Klotz from the University of South Florida women's soccer team was named to the All-BIG EAST first team this evening at the BIG EAST women's soccer awards banquet in Piscataway, N.J., while junior Venicia Reid and sophomore Taylor Patterson were named to the third team.
Klotz, who leads the Bulls with 11 goals scored, becomes the first Bull to pick up first team honors since the Bulls joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005. She is second in the conference in goals scored behind only BIG EAST offensive player of the Year Mellissa Henderson of Notre Dame.
Klotz's 11 goals are tied for the fourth most in a single season by a Bull and are the most since 2000. Klotz has 24 career goals.
In her first year with the Bulls, Reid leads the Bulls with 26 points coming off of nine goals and eight assists. Reid's eight assists rank sixth on USF's single-season assist list. They are the most since Siri Nordby's school-record 13 in 2003.
Patterson picked up third-team honors after being named to the All-Rookie Team in 2009. On the season, Patterson is third on the team with four goals, while starting 15 of the 18 matches she played in.
The trio of forwards being awarded mark the first time a Bull has picked up postseason kudos since Lindsay Brauer in 2007, when she picked up second-team honors.
In addition to the three Bulls being recognized for on-field successes, 15 Bulls were named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars,
Making their first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals, the University of South Florida will take on No. 14/13 Marquette on Friday night at Rutgers' Yurcak Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The match will be televised on CBS College Sports with Jason Knapp and Tammy Blackburn calling the action.
