
No. 33 Bulls Beat NC State 5-2

The day started out with doubles competition. Junior Irene Rehberger and senior Melissa Koning started out doubles competition for the Bulls with a win. Rehberger and Koning competed against Daria Petrovic and Sandhya Nagaraj in the flight one doubles spot. Rehberger and Koning beat Petrovic and Nagaraj 8-2.
Senior Allyn Mueller and freshman Ecaterina Vasenina also competed in doubles action for the Bulls in the flight two doubles spot against Berkeley Brock and Lenka Hojckova. Mueller and Vasenina fell to Brock and Hojckova 8-2 so the winner of the flight three doubles match would determine who would have the 1-0 lead heading into singles matches.
Redshirt sophomore Janette Bejlkova and senior Lauren Shumate competed against Ashley Miller and Diana Mortlock in the flight three doubles spot. Bejlkova and Shumate led 7-2 before Miller and Mortlock would make a small comeback and make it 7-4. Bejlkova and Shumate closed the match out in the next game and picked up the 8-4 win over Mortlock and Miller which gave the Bulls the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition.
Bejlkova started out singles competition for the Bulls with a win. Bejlkova competed against Petrovic in the flight four singles spot and Bejlkova beat Petrovic 6-0 in the first set. Bejlkova was up 4-0 in the second set before Petrovic retired from the match.
Vasenina picked up the Bulls third point of the day in her flight three singles match against Hojckova. Vasenina downed Hojckova in two sets 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Jessica Zok competed in the flight six singles spot for the Bulls on Friday against Chloe Smith. Zok took care of Smith in two sets 6-4, 6-3 which gave the Bulls the fourth and final point that they needed to pick up the win over NC State.
Koning competed in the flight two singles spot for USF against Brock. This was a fierce battle between the two players. Brock would go up 3-1 in the first set but Koning would fight back and win the first set 7-5. Both players continued to battle hard in the second set but it would be Koning who would earn the 7-6 second set win.
Senior Natalia Guevara closed out singles competition for the Bulls on Friday.
The Bulls will be back in action on Saturday when they host the University of Memphis. Competition is set to start at 11 a.m.
