
University of South Carolina Hands USF 5-2 Loss

Senior Lauren Shumate and redshirt sophomore Janette Bejlkova started things out for the Bulls in their flight three doubles match against Anya Morgina and Adriana Pereira. Shumate and Bejlkova fell to Morgina and Pereira 8-5.
No. 15 Senior Melissa Koning and junior Irene Rehberger competed in the flight one doubles spot against Dijana Stojic and Ana Marijia Zubori. This was a battle till the very end but when it was all said and done it was Stojic and Zubori who walked away with the 9-7 win and that gave USC the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition.
Senior Allyn Mueller and freshman Ecaterina Vasenina closed out doubles competition for USF on Wednesday in their flight two doubles match against Miljana Jocic and Madeleine Saari-Bystom. This was another close match for the Bulls but it was Jocic and Saari-Bystom who earned the 8-6 victory over Mueller and Vasenina.
Mueller started out singles competition for USF in her flight six singles match against Pereira. Mueller fell to Pereira in two sets 6-1, 6-2.
No. 35 Rehberger picked up the Bulls first win of the day in her flight one singles match against No. 72 Zubori. Both teams put everything they had into this match. Rehberger won the first set over Zubori 6-1 but Zubori came back in the second set and won it 6-4 which sent the match into a third set. Rehberger topped Zubori in the third set 6-3.
Senior Jessica Zok competed in the flight five singles spot for USF on Wednesday against Jocic. The two players kept things close in the first set and Jocic won the first set 7-5. Jocic also went on to win the second set 6-4 which gave her the win over Zok.
Bejlkova competed in the flight four singles spot against Saari-Bystrom. After falling in the first set 6-1, Bejlkova came back in the second set and won it 7-6 (4) which sent the match into a third set. Both players continued to battle it out in the third set but Sarri-Bystrom would beat Bejlkova in the third set 7-5. That gave USC the fourth and final point that they needed to pick up the win over the Bulls.
Koning also competed in singles competition for USF on Wednesday in the flight two singles spot against Stojic. Koning lost the first set to Stojic 6-2 but came back in the second set and won it 6-7 (5). In the third set Koning fell to Stojic 6-4.
Vasenina closed things out for the Bulls in her flight three singles match against Morgina. Vasenina won the first set 6-2 but Morgina would come back and win the second set 3-6. In the third set Vasenina topped Morgina 7-5.
USF will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Clemson, S.C., to take on No. 10 Clemson University. The Bulls will then head to Rockhill, S.C., to take on No. 65 Winthrop University on Saturday.
