No. 20 Bulls Earn 5-2 Victory Over No. 58 Eagles

No. 15 junior Irene Rehberger and senior Melissa Koning started things out for the Bulls on Saturday in their flight one doubles match against Yasmine Alkema and Elizaveta Zaytseva. Rehberger and Koning downed Alkema and Zayseva 8-4.
Senior Natalia Guevara and senior Jessica Zok picked up the Bulls second doubles win of the day in their flight three doubles match against Lisa Wilkinson and Sara Abutovic. Zok and Guevara swept past Wilkinson and Abutovic 8-2 which gave the Bulls the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition.
Senior Lauren Shumate and redshirt sophomore Janette Bejlkova also competed in doubles competition for the Bulls on Saturday. Shumate and Bejlkova took on Sandra Herrera and Giovanna Portiolli in the flight two doubles spot. Both teams managed to keep things close throughout the match but in the end Shumate and Bejlkova fell to Herrera and Portiolli 8-5.
Senior Allyn Mueller started out singles competition for the Bulls on Saturday with a win. Mueller took on Paula Pereira in the flight six singles spot. Mueller took care of Pereira in two sets 6-4, 6-3.
No. 35 Rehberger competed in the flight one singles spot on Saturday against Zaytseva. Rehberger took down Zaytseva in two sets 6-4, 6-3. That gave the Bulls their third point of the day.
Bejlkova took on Herrera in the flight three doubles spot. Bejlkova lost to Herrera 6-3, 6-2 and that gave Winthrop their first point of the day.
Zok competed in the flight four singles spot on Saturday against Portiolli. Zok fell to Portiolli in two sets 6-2, 6-1 and that closed the Bulls lead to one.
Guevara picked up the Bulls fourth point of the day in her flight five singles match against Wilkinson. Guevara downed Wilkinson in two sets 6-4, 6-4 which sealed the win for the Bulls.
Koning closed out things for the Bulls on Saturday in her flight two singles match against Alkema. Koning picked up the first set 6-3. Both players would battle it out in the second set and it would be Koning who would pick up the 7-6 second set win. That earned the Bulls their fifth and final point of the day.
With the win the Bulls improve their overall record to 6-4. The Bulls will be back in action on Monday when they welcome No. 60 Harvard to the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. That match is set to start at 11 a.m.
