
No. 20 Bulls Blow By No. 60 Harvard 5-2

It was a sunny day at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts with temperatures around 70 degrees. The No. 15 duo of junior Irene Rehberger and senior Melissa Koning started out the day for the Bulls with a win. Rehberger and Koning competed in the No. 1 doubles position against Sam Roskrans and Holly Cao, defeating Roskrans and Cao, 8-0.
Senior Natalia Guevara and senior Jessica Zok kept the momentum going for the Bulls in their match against Caroline Davis and Alexandra Lehman. Guevara and Zok competed in the No. 3 doubles position for USF and after falling behind 3-2, Guevara and Zok would battle back and make it 4-3. Both teams continued to battle hard. Zok and Guevara were up 6-5 before Davis and Lehman would tie it back up and make it 6-6. Guevara and Zok went on to win the next two games which gave them the 8-6 victory over Davis and Lehman. That gave USF the 1-0 lead heading into singles competition.
Senior Lauren Shumate and redshirt sophomore Janette Bejlkova also had a big doubles win for the Bulls on Monday. Shumate and Bejlkova competed in the No. 2 doubles position for USF, and they took on Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton. This was a fierce battle between the two teams. Shumate and Bejlkova fell behind 6-3 before battling back and winning four straight games to make it 7-6. Tachibana and Norton would win the next game to tie things up, 7-7. Shumate and Bejlkova would go on to win the next two games, though, which gave them the 9-7 come-from-behind win.
Guevara started out singles competition for USF with a win. Guevara went up against Sophie Chang in the No. 5 position. Guevara took care of Chang in two sets 6-0, 6-4. That gave USF a 2-0 lead over Harvard.
Koning competed in the No. 2 position for the Bulls on Monday against Tachibana. Koning fell to Tachibana in two sets, 6-4, 6-1. That cut the Bulls lead to one.
Bejlkova competed against Norton in the No. 3 position on Monday. Bejlkova picked up the first set over Norton 6-1. In the second set Norton led 5-4, but Bejlkova wasn't about to let the second set get away from her. Bejlkova would battle back and win the second set 7-5. That increased the Bulls lead back to two.
Senior Ally Mueller helped seal the win for USF on Monday in her match against Sam Gridley. Mueller competed in the No. 6 position for the Bulls, and she took down Gridley in two sets 6-4, 6-0.
No. 35 Rehberger competed in the No. 1 position for the Bulls against No. 84 Cao. Rehberger fell in the first set 6-3, but would come back in the second set and win it 6-2, which sent the match into a tiebreaker set. Rehberger lost to Cao in the tiebreaker set 10-5.
Zok closed things out for the Bulls on Monday in her match against Roskrans. This was good battle between the two players with each player fighting until the very end. Zok picked up the first over Roskrans 6-3, but Roskrans would come back in the second set and win it 6-4. In the tiebreaker set Zok would down Roskrans 10-6.
With the win the Bulls improved to 7-4 on the season. The Bulls will be back in action on Tuesday when they host No. 31 Yale at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The match is set to start at 11 a.m.
