TAMPA - University of South Florida junior guard Dominique Jones has been selected to the 2010 All-BIG EAST First Team, the league announced on Sunday.
Jones, who averaged 23.2 points in league games, also was awarded the BIG EAST scoring crown.
Along with the Lake Wales, Fla., native, five players were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, including Greg Monroe (Georgetown), Luke Harangody (Notre Dame), Wes Johnson (Syracuse), Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) and Da'Sean Butler (West Virginia).
In 30 games all together, Jones averaged 21.3 points and 6.1 rebounds along with 3.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He hit 45.4 percent of his shots and connected on 76.4 percent from the line. He currently stands as the only player in the nation to average 20 or more points, six or more rebounds and three or more assists per game.
Jones recorded 23.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 37.7 minutes per BIG EAST game. He hit 78.7 percent of his free throws and was 43.6 percent from the floor.
Jones' year was highlighted by a 46-point, 10-rebound, eight-assist outing at Providence in USF's first of four-straight BIG EAST wins. He added 28 points against Seton Hall and 37 against Pittsburgh as he scored the most points of any player in the country in the month of January.
The three-time BIG EAST Player of the Week is a Naismith Trophy Mid-Season Finalist and has also earned a trio of BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll awards.
Jones has scored 640 points this season, which ranks him third on the USF single season points list, and he also ranks fifth on USF's career scoring list with 1,732 points in three seasons.
The conference's head coaches choose the all-conference teams, and the coaches are not permitted to vote for their own players.
The conference will announce Player of the Year, Oppenheimer Funds/BIG EAST Coach of the Year, BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete on Tuesday. The announcement will be made between sessions of the first day of The BIG EAST Championship Presented by New York Life at Madison Square Garden. The press conference will begin after the postgame interviews of the afternoon doubleheader have been completed. The other individual awards will be announced Monday.
