
Bulls Fall To No. 14 Cardinals 4-3

TAMPA- The University of South Florida men's tennis team returned to action on Friday when the Bulls traveled to Kentucky to take on BIG EAST opponent Louisville. The Bulls fell to the Cardinals 4-3.
Sophomore Mark Oljaca and junior Romain Deridder started things out for USF in their No. 3 doubles match against Robert Hall and Sumit-Prakash Gupta. Oljaca and Deridder fell to Hall and Gupta 8-2.
Senior Thomas Estrada and junior Jamal Adderley took on No. 25 Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari in the No. 1 doubles position. Estrada and Adderley were downed by Childs and Calligari 8-4 and with the win the Cardinals earned the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition.
Sophomore Wael Kilani and sophomore Yannick Yoshizawa took on Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk in the No. 2 doubles position. Despite keeping things close, Kilani and Yoshizawa lost to Childs and Maksimcuk 8-6.
No. 100 Kilani started out singles competition for the Bulls in his No. 1 singles match against No. 30 Austen Childs. Kilani was downed by Childs in two straight sets 6-4, 6-1. That gave Louisville a 2-0 lead over USF.
Freshman Peter Frank competed in the No. 3 singles position for the Bulls against No. 76 Austen Childs. Frank fell to Childs 6-2, 6-2. That increased the Cardinals lead to three.
Oljaca picked up the Bulls first point of the day in his No. 5 singles match against Hall. Oljaca took care of Hall in two straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Deridder took on Calligari in the No. 4 singles position. After picking up the first set 6-3, Deridder would fall in the second set 6-3. In the third set, Deridder would top Calligari 6-3. With the win, USF pulled within one of the Cardinals.
Adderley continued singles action for USF in his No. 2 singles match against Maksimcuk. Both players battled it out in the first set and Adderley ended up picking up the first set over Maksimcuk 7-6. Adderley would fall to Maksimcuk in the next two sets, though, 6-1, 6-4. With the win the Cardinals earned the fourth and final point they needed to pick up the win over the Bulls.
Yoshizawa closed out singles competition for the Bulls in his No. 6 singles match against Chidi Gabriel. After losing the first set 6-4, Yoshizawa would fight back and win the next two sets 6-2, 7-6.
The Bulls will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Virginia Commonwealth University. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
