TAMPA - With summer workouts now here, the USF football position coaches had a chance to sit down and give a few soundbytes on the players currently with the team after a successful spring season. Each position coach said a few words about the players under their wing.
Today, we check in with offensive line coach Steve Shankweiler to hear what he had to say about the players who will form a good nucleus of talent in the offensive trench.
Check back with GoUSFBulls.com next week for more soundbytes.

On Damien Edwards
"Got much better during the spring. Needs to continue to work on his strength. Has really begun to turn the corner in becoming a good player."

"Hampered by a knee injury during the spring, but found a way to fight through it in every practice. A great competitor with a ton of potential. Has a chance to be a very, very special player."
On Chaz Hine
"Our blue-collar guy who fights through injury. Has a great weight-room work ethic and has done a great job of learning the fundamental changes we've made. Finished the end of spring as one of the top 3 linemen we have."
On Steven Jacques
"A young, strong guy who is very smart kid. Working very hard at becoming a player for us."

"An unknown going into spring game, John will play a lot of football at USF before he graduates. He has come a long way and could play a bunch this year for us."

"Has tremendous upside and as much ability as anyone you could ever recruit. His confidence level improved so much during the spring and he really enjoyed some of the things we did. We need him to be a very good player for us. We're counting on him to push to be in that first unit."
On Darren Powe
"Probably had the most reps of anyone during the course of the spring. Really worked hard on trying to learn the offense and made steady improvement. He'll battle for a playing spot come fall."
