Bulls Stay Perfect With 4-0 Win to Take Racer Classic

TAMPA - Looking to push their record to 3-0 for the first time since 1998, the University of South Florida women's soccer team (3-0-0) used a pair of Chelsea Klotz goals en route to a 4-0 win over Southeast Missouri State (2-1-0) in the second and final game of the 2010 Racer Classic Sunday afternoon.
Klotz continued her red-hot start to the season by netting both goals in the first half. The first goal came at the 10:14 mark when she took a cross from Valorie O'Brien from 35 yards out and headed it into the back of the net. Junior Gina Pacheco also picked up an assist on the play.
The goal would eventually prove to be all the Bulls needed but Klotz tacked on her second goal of the afternoon roughly 10 minutes later off of an another ball from O'Brien.
Through just three games, Klotz has scored five goals on the season and has now raised her tally to 18 career goals.
After nursing a 2-0 lead for the opening 25 minutes of the second, USF delivered goals in rapid succession as junior Venicia Reid scored her third goal in as many matches at the 71:02 mark to make it 3-0 in favor of the Bulls.
Just a minute and half later, junior Chantelle Goodson took a feed from Kristin Chenault for her first goal of the season for the Bulls' fourth and final goal of the afternoon.
Despite not facing a shot in over 72 minutes over action in goal, keeper Nicole McClure was relieved by senior Kim Diaz. A transfer from Florida State, Diaz made one save in over 17 minutes in net in her USF debut.
The Bulls' four goals on the afternoon marks the third time in as many games that the Bulls have scored four goals in a match, a feat that has not been done since 1998 when they scored five goals in back-to-back-to-back games.
With a comfortable lead throughout most of the contest, Bulls' head coach Denise Schilte-Brown substituted freely as 23 different players registered playing time.
Offensively, USF was relentless launching 26 shots in the match with nine of them being on goal, and in doing so, limited the Red Hawks to just one shot on and seven total shots on the afternoon.
Following this weekend, the Bulls return to Tampa for two straight matches at the USF Soccer Stadium. They will renew the "War on I-4" as UCF comes to town on Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. followed by Stetson on Sept. 5 at 1 p.m.
Game Notes
Through three games, USF has outshot the opposition 65-22 and outscored opponents 12-2... Venicia Reid has scored three goals on just five shots on goal... Chelsea Klotz now has nine career game-winning goals, two from this season... The 3-0-0 start marks just the second time the Bulls have opened the season victors in their first three matches in 16 seasons.
