TAMPA - University of South Florida All America goalkeeper Jeff Attinella has been named the BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending Sept. 12.
Attinella, who came into the 2010 campaign as the BIG EAST Conference preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, helped the Bulls to a 2-0 record last week with a pair of 2-0 wins over Stony Brook on Sept. 7 and Virginia Tech on Sept. 10. Attinella made six saves against the Seawolves and five against the Hokies en route to the two shutout victories. He has recorded three consecutive shutouts this season through last week's games. On the season, Attinella owns a 0.47 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
In addition to Attinella's recognition, senior midfielder Shawn Chin was also named to the BIG EAST Conference weekly honor roll. Last week, the Miami native scored the game winning goal in each match for the Bulls against Stony Brook and Virginia Tech. On the year, Chin is the leading scorer on the team with four points (2-0).
Coming off its win against the Hokies this past Friday night on national television, USF hits the road for three straight matches, two in the Embassy Suites Kickoff Classic at Florida Gulf Coast (vs. Ohio State on Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. and Drexel on Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.) and then in its BIG EAST opener at Connecticut on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. The match with the Huskies will also be broadcast nationally on ESPNU. The Bulls return home on Sept. 29 vs. Rhode Island at 7:30 p.m.
Ohio State comes into its match with USF with a 4-0 record after its 2-1 win over Bucknell on Sept. 12. The match will be another big test for the Bulls as the Buckeyes and USF boast No. 6 and No. 24 rankings in the this week's TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 48, respectively.
