The University of South Florida women's tennis team took advantage of finally getting to play on its home turf Wednesday with a 6-1 win over Central Florida at the Varsity Tennis Courts.  The Bulls, ranked No. 47 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, improved to 2-5 on the season and snapped a five-match losing streak with the win.

“We struggled a little bit early in doubles, but we stepped it up.” USF head coach Agustin Moreno said. “It was good to see us handle the slow start. UCF is a rival of ours, and they play us tough, so it was nice to win this way today.”

In singles action, USF got wins from its top five players in straight sets. No. 52 Irene Rehberger dispatched Jenny Frisell 6-0, 6-2 to gain USF's first singles point, and that match's conclusion was quickly followed by No. 124 Ecaterina Vasenina earning a 6-2, 6-1 win over Genevieve Lorbergs in the No. 2 spot.

Loreto Alonso Martinez clinched the match for the Bulls with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Courtney Griffith at No. 4. No. 62 Janette Bejikova also picked up a win in the No. 3 spot, easily handling Alexis Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Alessandra Bonte was the Bulls last winner, beating Jenna Doerfler, 6-0, 6-4.

Kate Parker's match at No. 6 was the Bulls' only setback. The freshman dropped her match to Josephine Haraldson 6-0, 6-1.

The Bulls won the doubles point for the first time since the season opener on the strength of wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.  Alonso Martinez and Vasenina grabbed an 8-2 win over Frisell and Rodriguez at No. 2, and Bonte and Parker also earned a victory 8-3 over Dubins and Doerfler at No. 3. After the point was decided, USF's top pairing of Bejikova and Rehberger fell 8-6 to Lorbergs and Griffith.

USF hits the road again for its next two matches, taking on Texas and Arizona State in Austin, Texas on Friday and Saturday.
