
USF To Face Pittsburgh In BIG EAST First Round

TAMPA - The University of South Florida women's basketball team has earned the No. 13 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, which begins on Friday, March 4 and runs through March 9 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
USF, who finished the 2010-11 regular season with a 12-18 overall record and a 3-13 slate in conference play following its big 60-55 win over No. 17/19 Georgetown on Monday in Tampa, will face the No. 12 seed Pittsburgh on Friday at Noon in the first round.
The Panthers lost their final regular season game to Villanova, 54-52 on Monday night, dropping their record to 13-16 on the year and 5-11 in the BIG EAST.
Earlier this season, the Bulls dropped a tough 70-66 victory to Pittsburgh on Feb. 12 at the Petersen Events Center. USF, who led by as many as 11 points in the contest, placed four players in double figures, led by Andrell Smith and Akila McDonald who scored 16 and 15 points, respectively in the loss. Leondra Doomes-Stephens and Andrea Smith added 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
USF comes into this year's BIG EAST Tournament with a 3-5 record all-time in the event, and have advanced past its first game in three of the past four seasons. Last year the Bulls dropped a 63-51 decision to Cincinnati in the first round.
The winner of the USF-Pittsburgh first round game will face the No. 5 seed Marquette on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m.
