The University of South Florida men's tennis team dropped a tough BIG EAST match vs. Louisville, 5-2, on Sunday at the USF Varsity Courts. The loss drops the Bulls to 12-7 with one regular season match remaining before the conference tournament.
“We expected a tough match and we got a tough match,” USF head coach Don Barr said. “We competed and had our chances to pull it out. Now we know what we have to do to take this team down at the conference tournament.”
The decisive match was on Court 5 where Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard fell to Robert Hall, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
The Cardinals were put in a position to win the match thanks to victories from two of their three nationally-ranked players. Wael Kilani dropped his match on Court 2 to No. 92 Viktor Maksimcuk, 6-2, 7-5 after Yannick Yoshizawa came up short vs. No. 117 Simon Childs, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 3.
The Bulls did pick up a win during that stretch from Sebastian Hagn over Andrew Carter, 7-5, 6-1 on Court 6.
After the match was decided, Federico Sabogal downed Alejandro Calligari, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 on Court 4, and No. 73 Lucas Jovita fell to No. 13 Austen Childs, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 1.
USF dropped the doubles point despite the return of Jamal Adderley to the top pairing with Lucas Jovita. That duo won its match vs. Maksimcuk and Simon Childs, 8-3. Deridder and Yoshizawa fell to Hall and Calligari, 8-4, at No. 2 and Kilani and Sabogal dropped their match 8-1 to Austen Childs and Adam Donaldson.
