TAMPA - Former University of South Florida Bull, and current Dallas Maverick, Dominique Jones is celebrating his first National Basketball Association Championship in his rookie season with the squad.
Jones and the Mavs defeated the Miami Heat in six games to win the 2011 NBA Championship, Dallas' first-ever title.
The native of Lake Wales, Fla., played in 18 games with the Mavs before his rookie year came to a halt in February with a season-ending stress fracture in his foot.
With the Mavericks, Jones averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting 82 percent at the free throw line and 31 percent from the field. His top NBA performances included 13 points vs. San Antonio (Jan. 14), six rebounds at Memphis (Jan. 15) and a 5-5 night at the free throw line at Cleveland on Jan. 2.
Jones also spent time with the NBA Developmental League's Texas Legends in Frisco, Texas, where he averaged 18.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 10 games. He shot 43.6 percent from the field and 85.9 percent at the free throw line.
