STORRS, CONN. - In one fell swoop, all three streaks came to an end for the University of South Florida softball team.
USF's best start, best conference start and longest winning streak all halted Saturday, as the Bulls (39-6 overall, 12-1 Big East) dropped the second game of the doubleheader Saturday against Connecticut, 7-3.
The Huskies scored two runs in the first, two in the fourth and three in the fifth, becoming the first team in 30 games to score more than two runs against USF.
After a two-run homer in the bottom of the first gave Connecticut an early lead, the Bulls battled back. Senior catcher Laura Fountain drove a single through the left side in the second inning, scoring Janine Richardson from third. Two innings later, the Bulls loaded the bases and tied the game on Sydney Dinelli's sacrifice fly.
It wouldn't last long however, as the Huskies answered in the bottom of the fourth, and extended their lead in the fifth.
Sam Greiner started pitching and took the loss, going three innings and surrendering three earned runs. Fountain had two of the Bulls' five hits, with Stephanie Medina, Jessica Mouse and Kenshyra Jackson collecting the other three.
The Bulls finish off the three-game series tomorrow at 11 a.m.
