Passariello Scores Again in 1-1 Tie with UL

Special to GoUSFBulls.com TAMPA – USF (6-4-2, 2-1-2) tied Louisville (7-3-2, 2-2-2) 1-1 in a double-overtime Big East thriller Sunday in front of 458 fans at Corbett Soccer Stadium. The Bulls scored in the second overtime, but the potential game-winning goal was disallowed in the 108th minute because of a handball by Ana Paola Lopez. Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown is happy with the progress that she has seen from the team so far this season. “I'm proud of the change I've seen, and the way they are creating opportunities,” Schilte-Brown said. USF struck first in the ninth minute when Olivia Chance's touch pass setup Sharla Passariello for a shot on the left side of the net, which bounced off of the hands of Louisville's goalkeeper, Chloe Kiefer. Passariello, the Bulls' leading goal-scorer, registered her sixth goal of the season. USF nearly scored again in the first half when sophomore Sarah Miller's header bounced off of the right side of the top goal post. Louisville had its opportunities to score in the first half, but Christiane Endler spurned them all as she recorded four saves in the half. USF had several chances to extend the lead in the second half. Passariello and Demi Stokes each had one-on-one chances that were saved by Kiefer. Although Endler's stellar goalkeeping continued, she was unable to stop Louisville's Angelica Uremovich's penalty kick in the 83rd minute following a foul in the box by Marsha Harper. With under a minute remaining in regulation, Passariello's late shot sailed over the top of the net. The teams were evenly matched in the first overtime period and the match remained tied at one goal apiece. The second overtime period began with a great save by Kiefer off of a Passariello header. Subsequently, Endler was able to make a diving save off of a shot by Louisville's Charlyn Corral. She finished with a total of eight saves. Senior defensemen Kelly Campbell praised Endler's effort and tenacity. “There's probably no keeper better than [Endler] in the Big East.” The Bulls will be back in action Friday Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Connecticut.
