
Starters on Point in 78-60 Win at Pitt

By TOM ZEBOLD USF Senior Writer TAMPA - The Bulls grabbed an early lead and never looked back in Sunday's 78-60 victory at Pittsburgh. Andrea and Andrell Smith each scored 15 points and all five starters finished in double figures for USF (15-6, 4-4) at Petersen Events Center. Freshman forward Alisia Jenkins posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the Bulls' third consecutive win over the Panthers. Pitt (9-12, 0-8) got 19 points from Asia Logan and 16 more from Brianna Kiesel in the program's pursuit of its first Big East win since 2011. USF's offense kicked it into high gear from the start with Andrell Smith and McDonald both at 10 points by the time the Bulls led, 43-33, at halftime. Jenkins was a point away from double figures as USF shot 47 percent in the opening period. The Bulls kept the game out of reach by outrebounding Pitt, 48-39, with 29 boards totaled on the defensive end. Akila McDonald finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Inga Orekhova had 14 points and four assists. USF remains on the road to face Providence on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. before heading back to the Sun Dome to host St. John's on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
