By TOM ZEBOLD USF Senior Writer TAMPA – Stephanie Medina and Monica Santos each went deep to help the Bulls extend their winning streak to six on Friday afternoon at the USF Under Armour Showcase. Medina hit a two-run homer and Santos added a solo shot in the Bulls' 5-3 win over South Carolina at USF softball stadium. Medina, a left-hander, showed off her power in the bottom of the first when she drove her second homer of the season over the wall in left-center field. The junior now leads the team with 19 hits and 13 RBIs. Shelby Gonzales got South Carolina on the scoreboard in the third with a solo homer and the Gamecocks took a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a two-run shot by Julie Sarratt. The Bulls kept the slugfest going in a three-run fifth that featured Santos' first-career homer. The 4-foot-10 second baseman drove an 0-1 pitch just over the tall wall in left field and Medina put USF back ahead with an RBI double. A fielding error by South Carolina shortstop Samie Garcia resulted in a 5-3 USF lead. Sara Nevins (5-4) earned the win by limiting the Gamecocks to three hits in three scoreless innings of relief. The performance helped the junior left-hander lower her season ERA to 1.27 in 60 2/3 innings. USF will face UMass in the second game of its Friday doubleheader at 4:50 p.m. back at USF softball stadium.
