Patterson Scores in Bulls' 1-1 Tie With Clemson

By TOM ZEBOLD USF Senior Writer TAMPA – Cara Patterson's header highlighted the Bulls' 1-1 double-overtime tie with Clemson on Friday night before a crowd of 1,015 at Corbett Soccer Stadium. The Bulls (1-0-2) pulled ahead in the 49th minute when Patterson slipped a header through a crowd of Clemson defenders for her first goal of the season after getting a perfectly placed corner kick from freshman midfielder Alexandra Meyers in a game featured on NSCAATV.com. “Cara Patterson is dangerous in the air and the way she went up and finished it was quite clinical,” head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. “It was a great service from a freshman and I'm really proud of the group for getting that done.” USF kept the lead all the way up to the 82nd minute when Clemson (1-0-2) took advantage of a foul and evened the score with a penalty kick goal from Vanessa Laxgang. The Bulls worked their second consecutive double-OT tie thanks to a stellar effort from the defense and keeper Christiane Endler, who posted nine saves and faced 19 shots. USF outshot Clemson, 5-4, after the break while getting more physical with a tough ACC opponent. “I think we came out in the second half and managed ourselves better and created a lot of good opportunities,” Schilte-Brown said. The Bulls will finish up a busy weekend with a test against Niagara 1 p.m. Sunday back at Corbett Stadium. “You have to have a short memory and move forward,” Schilte-Brown said.
