Bulls Can't Keep Up With No. 24 UConn on Road

HARTFORD, Conn., FEB. 12, 2014 – The USF men's basketball team couldn't get it going on offense in an 83-40 loss to No. 24 UConn before a crowd of 10,553 at the XL Center on Wednesday night.

Musa Abdul-Aleem posted a team-high eight points while USF went 12-for-50 from the field (24 percent) in the first of two meetings between the programs this season.

"We have to burn the film and get ourselves ready for UCF," head coach Stan Heath said. "It was a poor performance and we couldn't do anything well."

DeAndre Daniels scored a game-high 12 points, Kentan Facey added 10 points and Amida Brimah came up with six of 11 blocks for the Huskies (19-5, 7-4). UConn shot 52.8 percent from the field, outscored USF's bench, 42-22, and scored 26 points off 15 turnovers by the Bulls (12-13, 3-9).

"We just had one of those games where it just seemed like we didn't show up and they were ready to go," Heath said. "There are no excuses. We just played very poorly today."

UConn took control from the start with a game-opening 15-3 run in the first 8 minutes and didn't slow down on the way to grabbing 45-14 halftime lead. The Huskies blocked eight shots in the opening period while USF started 4-for-23 from the field.

"Our offense got pushed too far out, we were too slow getting into some things and we let the clock wind down," Heath said.

Freshman John Egbunu finished with seven points, and Victor Rudd and Chris Perry added six points apiece. USF knows it will have to turn the page quickly to get ready for another test against in-state rival UCF 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sun Dome.

The Bulls will go for a season sweep of the Knights after winning, 79-78, in overtime on Feb. 5 in Orlando and fans can purchase tickets for the matchup HERE.

"We have to get back to Tampa tonight, get our minds right, get our legs underneath us again and prepare these next two days as hard and as smart as we can for a battle," Heath said. "We're going to have a major battle on Saturday afternoon."
