Skeete Scores Golden Goal in Overtime Win

Murfreesboro, Tenn. (Sept. 7, 2014) – The USF women's soccer team is leaving Tennessee with two victories and plenty of confidence after shutting out Kennesaw State, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. After a shaky start to the season, the Bulls (3-2-1) are now riding a three-match win streak, all of which have been shutouts. Sophomore Leticia Skeete scored the game winning goal with just two minutes left in the first overtime period on an assist by junior Cristina Ferral. The goal was Skeete's third of the season, and second game winner. The Bulls found themselves heading to their second overtime game as regulation ended in a scoreless draw. USF had created multiple opportunities to score in the first 90 minutes but was unable to capitalize. The first 90 minutes saw the Bulls out-shoot the Owls (2-3-1), 11-6. USF took twice as many corner kicks (6) than KSU, but could not convert any to goals. During regulation play, junior Jackie Simpson recorded the lone shot on goal for the Bulls but was kept from scoring on a save by the KSU goalkeeper. The USF offense pounded the Owls defense early in overtime, recording three shots in just two minutes. Junior Kate Loye dinged a shot off the crossbar while junior Olivia Chance sent one wide and notched the second shot on goal, but was denied by the Owl goalkeeper. The Bulls will look to continue their win streak this weekend as they host the USF Soccer Classic. The team will face South Carolina on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 p.m. and Texas on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 11:30 a.m. Follow @USFSoccer on Twitter for more information about the women's soccer program. The USF women's soccer team has posted two consecutive 10-plus win seasons and three in the last four years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance and recorded their first tournament victory in 2010. USF returns 23 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference second team forward Demi Stokes and All-Rookie Team defender Leticia Skeete.
