NEW ORLEANS, JAN. 4, 2015 – Alisia Jenkins posted her 10th double-double of the season and USF's defense dominated in a 53-40 win at Tulane on Sunday.
In a marque conference matchup featuring two 11-win teams, Jenkins finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds in the sixth consecutive win for the Bulls (12-3, 3-0). Junior guard Courtney Williams (Folkston, Ga.) scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds while freshman Laura Ferreira (Portugal) added 10 points.
Tulane (11-3, 2-1) came into the contest averaging 67 points and became the second straight USF opponent to set a season low in scoring. The Green Wave, also receiving Top 25 votes, shot just 24.6 percent from the floor (16-for-65), went 2-for-21 from long range and turned the ball over 19 times.
Sunday's nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network started with tough defense by the Bulls, who took a 26-18 lead into the break after Tulane made only seven of its first 34 shots. USF has held opponents to 20 or fewer points in the first half four times this season and the Green Wave became the 10th team to shoot under 35 percent from the floor overall.
USF led by as many as 18 points in the second half and didn't let up on the defensive end as Tulane went 9-for-31 from the field and finished with no players in double figures. The Bulls are 9-1 this season when their opponents shoot less than 35 percent from the field.
The Bulls finish up a two-game road trip Sunday, Jan. 11 at Temple before heading back to the Sun Dome to face SMU on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. Purchase tickets HERE.
