Skeete's Sharp Shooting Leads Bulls to Shutout Win

Toronto native Leticia Skeete provided all the offense the USF women's soccer team would need as the Bulls defeated Houston, 2-0, Thursday night.
The win improved the Bulls to 12-2-2 on the season and 5-1-1 in conference play, while Houston dropped to 4-10-0 and 0-6-0.
Skeete got the scoring started quick, notching her fourth goal of the season in the fifth minute. After back-and-forth passing to move the ball down the field, Olivia Chance crossed the ball to Skeete who buried it into the top right corner of the net.
The score would remain 1-0 through the first half, though the Bulls had multiple opportunities to increase their lead. Junior midfielder Jordyn Listro led the Bulls with two shots in the first half. Listro's first shot of the night almost made it a 2-0 game, but her attempt sailed just wide of the goal.
In the second half, Skeete got the scoring started early once again, finding the back of the net in the 46th minute. Diana Saenz earned the assist, playing the ball into the middle of the box for Skeete who punched it in for the 2-0 lead.
A perfect 2-for-2 to start the game, Skeete's hat trick bid would fall short as her third and final shot of the night went just wide. Skeete would lead the team with three shots on the night, while fellow Canadian Listro, and seniors Jackie Simpson and Olivia Chance each recorded two.
The Bulls and Cougars were tied with 11 shots apiece on the night, but Houston held the advantage in corners (7-3) and shots on goal (5-2). Sophomore Kat Elliott recorded five saves on the night, including a crucial one at the 60th-minute mark.
USF is now 2-1 in the state of Texas this season, after defeating Baylor to open the season and falling to Texas Tech to end non-conference play. The Bulls will head to Dallas to face SMU, who fell 2-1 in overtime to UCF, on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m.
The USF women's soccer team has posted three consecutive 10-plus win seasons and four in the last five years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014. USF returns 20 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference first team midfielder Olivia Chance and second team defender Jackie Simpson. They also bring back 12 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
