GREENVILLE, N.C., OCT. 25, 2015 – Dakota Hampton recorded her seventh consecutive double-double as the USF volleyball team swept East Carolina 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) Sunday in Greenville, N.C.
Hampton recorded 14 kills and 13 digs while hitting .214 to help USF snap a four-match losing streak and improve to 7-15 overall, 4-6 in the American Athletic Conference. Molly Burkhardt finished with a team-high 22 assists while Nikki Koval had a team-high 16 digs.
“It was a great team performance today,” said head coach Courtney Draper. “Our defense was sharp. We out-dug ECU by a dozen balls. Denise, Joli and Dakota were unstoppable offensively. Our setters made excellent choices and moved the ball around really well for us.”
Denise Belcher recorded 13 kills and hit .524 and Joli Holland had eight kills and hit .615. As a team, USF recorded a hitting percentage of .256 compared to ECU's .122.
USF got out to a 15-10 lead in the first set and cruised to a 25-17 win.
The Bulls got out to another lead in the second set of 8-5 before the Pirates (10-11, 4-7) took a 15-12 lead. USF then went on a 13-4 run and won the second set 25-19 on a kill by Hampton.
USF jumped out to a 9-8 lead in the fourth set, but then trailed 14-9 in the second set. The Bulls then went on a 16-7 run to win 25-21.
The third set was back-and-forth until USF took a 9-8 lead. ECU could never retake the lead as USF cruised to a 25-19 win.
The Bulls will be back in action on Friday when they play at Tulane at 8 p.m. ET.
