TULSA, Okla., NOV. 27, 2015 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (11-21, 8-12 AAC) was defeated 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 21-25) at the University of Tulsa (14-17, 9-10 AAC) in the 2015 season finale on Friday afternoon.
“Tulsa's offense was just too tough for us to handle today and their scrappy defense frustrated our attackers,” said USF head volleyball coach Courtney Draper. “We had a few strong individual performances but overall our team was too inconsistent to get the win today.”
In the opening set, the teams were tied at 15 until Tulsa scored 10 of the final 13 points to take set one.
In set two, USF rallied back from a 16-10 deficit with four consecutive points. However, the Golden Hurricane answered with a 6-0 run on their way to another 25-18 win.
In the third set, the Bulls were unable to hold a 6-2 advantage as Tulsa raced back to clip USF 25-21 and claim the match.
Senior Wylie Devlin (Winter Park, Fla.) totaled a match-high 24 digs. Senior Natalia Soares (Porto Alegre, Brazil) tallied 15 assists for USF.
“It's disappointing to end the season like this but I'm thankful for my time with our seniors,” added Draper. “We return all of our point scorers next season, so I'm excited about the future of this team.”
Juniors Denise Belcher (Apopka, Fla.) and Dakota Hampton tied for the team-lead with eight kills each.
The Bulls now begin the offseason and preparation for 2016.
The USF volleyball program has reached the NCAA Tournament seven times and boasts seven conference championships. The Bulls return five starters (plus a libero) from last season's team.
