Skeete's Golden Goal Sends USF to American Finals

DALLAS (Nov. 2, 2015)— Golden.
Leticia Skeete netted the game-winner for the second straight game to send the USF women's soccer team to the finals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The junior from Ontario, Canada sent a beautiful shot over the UCF keeper in the 102nd minute of play to give USF the golden goal and the 1-0 win.
The Bulls avenged a 3-1 regular season loss to the Knights back in October with the win. USF was the clear dominant team, outshooting UCF 28-9, including a 9-0 mark in overtime. The Bulls took an unprecedented 15 corner kicks, eight in the first overtime period alone, to UCF's five.
The win marked the 15th victory of the season, tying the program record set back in 1998. Also accomplished in 1998 was USF's first and only win over the Knights. The Bulls broke a 10-match losing streak to UCF with tonight's victory.
Cristina Ferral, who earned the assist on Skeete's goal, led the way for USF with six shots on the night. Trudi Carter and Olivia Chance followed with five apiece. Sophomore keeper Kat Elliott recorded her league-leading 10th shutout of the season. The Bulls' powerful offense forced UCF keeper Vera Varis to make 11 shots on the night as they pounded the goal.
USF advanced to the finals of the conference tournament for the second straight year. The Bulls will face fourth-seeded Cincinnati in the finals. The Bearcats upended No. 1 UConn, 3-2, in double overtime after rallying form a 2-0 deficit in the final 11 minutes to tie the game. In the regular season, Cincinnati handed the Bulls their first conference loss in a 1-0 defeat on the road.
Sunday's final is slated for 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT on ESPN 3. The game will also be aired in a tape delay at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.

The USF women's soccer team has posted three consecutive 10-plus win seasons and four in the last five years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014. USF returns 20 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference first team midfielder Olivia Chance and second team defender Jackie Simpson. They also bring back 12 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
