TAMPA, NOV. 6, 2015 – USF volleyball completed a season sweep of East Carolina with a 3-0 victory at The Corral on Friday night.
USF (9-17, 6-8) registered its third win in the past five matches by defeating the Pirates, 25-19, 25-21, 25-20. The Bulls didn't drop a set during its season series with ECU (10-14, 3-10).
“I thought we were pretty sharp,” head coach Courtney Draper said. “Our side-out game was solid in one of the most efficient matches that we've played. I thought our setters did a good job of spreading out the offense. “
Junior outside hitter Dakota Hampton extended her double-double streak to 11 with a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs. Freshman setter Molly Burkhardt led the team with 19 assists and added 13 digs. Senior setter Natalia Soares also posted a double-double with a team-high 15 digs and 17 assists.
USF hit .259 as a team and got steady production from its middle blockers. Joli Holland had a match-high .529 hitting percentage with nine kills. Clara Payne also was efficient with a .417 hitting percentage and five kills.
“For both of them to hit over .400, I couldn't ask for more from either of them,” Draper said.
USF hits the road for two matches next week, starting with a test at UConn on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. The Bulls wrap up the road trip at Temple on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia.
Watch the Bulls take on Cincinnati back at The Corral on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The program will honor Soares, Wylie Devlin and Olga Morekhodova on Senior Day before USF finishes up its home slate against Memphis on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at USFBullsTix.com.
