Chance's Late Goal Keeps Bulls Perfect

MOBILE, Ala. (Sept. 6, 2015)- All they needed was one Chance. After 82 minutes of scoreless play, senior Olivia Chance came in clutch to put USF (5-0-0) up 1-0 over the Troy Trojans (5-2-0) and help lead the Bulls to their fifth straight win. In the 83rd minute, Chance received a pass from junior Trudi Carter and scored from just inside 18 yards. The senior's fifth goal of the season leads the team and she is now just four away from tying her 2014 total. It was a defensive battle as the Bulls were held to 11 shots, while holding the Trojans to just 12. Sophomore keeper Kat Elliott was outstanding, making seven saves including a crucial save on a Troy penalty kick. Her seven saves tied a career high, set last season at UConn. It was the third shutout of the season for USF and the ninth of Elliott's career. The Bulls have now outscored their opponents 13-2 over the first five games. Though USF was outshot 12-11 for the game, Chance's clutch shot in the late minutes was enough for the win. Senior Cristina Ferral led all Bulls with four shots in the game. The Bulls continue their road swing with matches against Charlotte and Clemson this coming weekend. The Bulls face Charlotte on Friday, Sept. 11 and Clemson Sunday, Sept. 13. The USF women's soccer team has posted three consecutive 10-plus win seasons and four in the last five years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014. USF returns 20 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference first team midfielder Olivia Chance and second team defender Jackie Simpson. They also bring back 12 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
