TAMPA, JAN. 16, 2016  – USF Head Coach Willie Taggart has promoted Raymond Woodie to the role of defensive coordinator. Woodie, the Bulls' assistant head coach/linebackers/special teams coach in 2015, assumes defensive coordinator duties following the departure of Tom Allen, who notified Taggart of his intention to accept a similar role at another institution.

“Tom notified me Friday that he had accepted an offer to become defensive coordinator at another program,” Taggart said. “We thank Tom for the energy and contributions he brought to our program over the last year and we wish him well as he continues his career.”

Woodie, who has been a vital part of Taggart's coaching staffs at USF and WKU for the past six seasons, will assume the defensive coordinator role immediately. The Palmetto native and former I-AA All-American linebacker at Bethune-Cookman (1992-95) has guided linebackers Augie Sanchez (2015) and DeDe Lattimore (2013) to all-conference honors in his three seasons as USF linebackers coach.

“It didn't take long to identify Coach Woodie as the right person to lead our defense,” Taggart said. “He has done a great job developing a strong linebacker unit over the past three years and his positive impact on our special teams was very evident last year. Woodie has tremendously strong relationships with our players, great knowledge of our system and is well prepared to lead our defense.”

USF returns seven of its top nine tacklers from 2015, including leading tackler Sanchez who's 117 stops rank tied for the second-best season total in program history.
