Box Score TAMPA, Fla. (April 24, 2016) – The USF softball team dropped just its second game in conference play Friday night in a 9-0 loss to instate rival UCF. The loss dropped the Bulls to 42-12, 14-2 in conference play, while UCF improved to 32-17, 9-2.
The game was a pitcher's duel for the ages as aces Erica Nunn and Shelby Turnier were lights out for the first six innings. Nunn allowed just three hits in the first six innings, while Turnier allowed just four. From the second to sixth inning, no hits were allowed by either pitcher, until Kristen Wyckoff singled in the bottom of the sixth.
The seventh inning would prove to be the turning point as the Knights tacked on nine runs, putting the game out of reach for the Bulls. UCF sent 13 batters to the plate, tacking on the runs on just four hits and five walks.
Nunn took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits. The senior lefty struck out five Knights in her six innings of work. Wyckoff went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bulls offensively.
Game two of the series and Senior Day is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Sunday's game will be aired on ESPNU at 5 p.m.
